The total area of the country is approximately 48,000 square kilometers (2x the size of New Hampshire) and it has the highest elevations in the Greater Antilles but still has a seawater lake below sea level. Given the height of the mountains within the Dominican Republic, in excess of 3,000 meters high, the north coast of the island is well protected from severe weather such as hurricanes.<br /> <br /> Compared to other popular islands in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic offers much more diversity in culture, geography, topology and almost every other measure. We have the highest mountains and still have over 1000 miles of beach! I have stayed in the Dominican Republic many times so I am familiar with the island and what it offers. Last year I started going through North Coast because they represented a villa I wanted to try. Wow! Talk about an amazing service-oriented company! Concierge services better than a five star hotel with very friendly staff.
