Tara Cottage in Captain Cook, Hawaii is a unique, handcrafted, redwood and cedar octagon nestled on 15 acres of seclusion overlooking beautiful Kealakekua Bay. This retreat offers breathtaking and unobstructed views of Kealakekua Bay and the South Kona Coastline and is just a 10 minute drive to the Bay, the Place of Refuge National Park and lovely Ho'okena Beach Park.
Tara Cottage features a central 300 sq. ft octagonal Great Room with a 15 ft apex and skylight. It is beautifully decorated with original artwork, fine furniture, Indonesian wood carvings and fabrics, and extensive libraries of fine books, CDs and DVDs for your reading, listening and viewing pleasure.
Surrounding the octagonal main room are: the kitchen with its door to the service porch with washer and dryer and recycling center; the dining area with a 9 foot bank of windows framing a stunning view of Kealakekua Bay; a large 'water closet'; and an intimate day room with twin bed and a window looking out to to a garden and birdbath. One showers outdoors in a dramatic lava rock grotto within this garden. The luxurious "waterfall shower" features Grohe fixtures and side jets, for a satisfying shower/massage. Complete privacy is provided by bamboo fencing and the surrounding lush Thai bamboo.
On the ocean side of the cottage is a bi-level lanai featuring superb views. The upper lanai has a dining table and chairs for outdoor dining, andthe lower lanai is outfitted with chaise lounges for sunning and relaxation.
The grounds surrounding the cottage are beautiful landscaped with diverse and exotic tropical plantings including a profusion of Hawaiian ti plants, bougainvillaea and over 10 varieties of bamboo. A small farming area below Tara Cottage is planted in coffee, lime and guava trees as well as the Big Island's seasonal white pineapple. Feel free to stroll these grounds and gardens, all the while enjoying the magnificent unobstructed views of the Bay and coastline.
Tara Cottage was carefully sited to take full advantage of prevailing day and nighttime breezes and is comfortable year round at its 900 ft elevation. It is a truly remarkable destination for adults desiring a peaceful environment with few distractions--perfect for honeymoons, special anniversaries, contemplation and preparation for life changes and creative endeavors.
