Area Description: CONCA dei MARINI
Conca dei Marini was founded by the ancient Romans, around the year 500 BC, like many of the other towns on the Amalfi Coast. Conca's Latin name means "Basin of the Seas", this is surely because of the way its coastline contours along the Mediterranean sea, creating enchanting small fiords, and gulfs.
Conca dei Marini is also famous for its "Grotta dello Smeraldo" (Emerald Grotto) renowned all over the world for its amazing emerald-green waters, and its under sea "Presepe" (the scene of the birth of Christ). The Grotto is reachable by both land, and ferry. Once you reach the Grotto, you are taken on a guided boat tour of the interior cave.
Other worthy sites to visit in Conca are: the Church of San Pancrazio (it has an amazing view of the Amalfi Coast from its courtyard), San Antonio of Padua, San Michele Arcangelo, and the Monastery of Santa Rosa.

Stunning views, and tranquility, are key features of Conca dei Marini, and it is located only a very short distance from Amalfi, Positano, and many other interesting towns along the Amalfi Coast.
EARTH...SKY...SEA...
Conca dei Marini lies between Capo di Conca and Grotta dello Smeraldo. The houses, in typical Mediterranean style, with domes and walls made from thick white limestone are immersed in the lemon gardens and olive groves which are characteristic of the hills of St Pancrazio and St Antonio. Its beauty has enchanted many an illustrious visitor including Princess Margaret of Great Britain who visited frequently.
Conca dei Marini is linked to an age old maritime tradition, a fishing village where the tales and legends of the past are still passed down through the generations. Famous for its Tonnara, a system used to catch the migrating tuna, the economy of Conca dei Marini relies almost exclusively on the sea.
To visit: Grotta dello Smeraldo, a fabulous cave full of stalactites and wonderful green light, the Church of St Pancrazio, the Convent of St Rosa and the Conca Tower. The Festa di St Rosa is an ancient tradition in which the nuns of the Convent distribute to the inhabitants of the town the famous Sfogliatella Santa Rosa cake, first made in the 1700s.
