Harbour Island: The first capital of the Bahamas, established in 1729. Located a ten minute drive from the house and a short boat taxi ride to Harbour Island. There are several small five-star resorts along with scuba diving facilities at Valentines or the Harbour Island Marina. Here you’ll see yachts from around the world. The famous Pink Sand Beach is located on the Atlantic side of Harbour Island. Shopping includes several boutiques, art galleries, liquor stores, delis, grocery stores, plus several restaurants. A trip to Harbour Island is an enjoyable days outing, but you’ll be happy to return to the peace and quiet of EL`LURE. Also a very old village receiving its name from the Spanish ships that stopped for fresh water. Spanish Wells is the commercial fishing capital of the Bahamas with a fleet of fishing boats plus marine facilities. A short water taxi ride from Eleuthera. There is a large supermarket, Food Fair, hardware store, marine supply stores and several general stores. You can also purchase lobster at the processing plant, Ronald’s Service Center, located near the water front. The water taxi, leaves from Gene’s Bay on Eleuthera. The Food Fair is about a 10 minute walk from the ferry dock. They will deliver your groceries to the ferry dock for your return trip.
