We will never forget July 2009 and the week we spent at your Chataugua Great House. It was surreal. The magnificent wonder and spectacular beauty of your land and the constantly changing view far exceeded our expectations. The photos of eagles in your eagle's nests from my little canon camera turned out terrific when enlarged to 5x7 then cut to photo album size. Next time I'm bringing a better camera! And the kids can't stop talking about the moose and otters we saw, about the salmon they could reach out and touch, about combat fishing (now that was a site), and about golfing in Anchor Point, Alaska.
You were right about the kitchen. It's a funny thing - at home cooking had become somewhat of a burdensome chore - but at Chataugua we felt renewed and energized. Everyone was involved in preparing the catch. Meals were so easy and most of all fun. We came home with a whole new attitude and you have really changed our lives in a way we never imagined and remain grateful for today.
The charters you recommended were outstanding as was Anchor Point Seafood for processing our fish. All services provided good value for our dollar and when we talked with others at the airport and back home we really realized how many people had just horrible experiences on some fishing boats and with their frozen fish. The seafood we brought back is so fresh and tasty and far better than anything we have ever had in a restaurant. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
We stayed so busy we never watched TV, but the boys did enjoy some ping pong and fooz ball. My husband and I perused your library and enjoyed some private time with surprises from your shelves. Relaxing in those huge chairs with a book in my hands looking out those huge windows - my goodness - life doesn't get any better than that. We will never forget the meteor showers from your deck and a moon so bright we could see volcanoes reflect on the sea. Where do you get to sit and see that?
Lastly, there was the beauty of the woods and local stones you used throughout while building your wonderful lodge. Alaska really is the last "untamed wilderness" which you have captured, tamed and brought indoors for us to enjoy and did we ever. Our family and friends are jealous and are vying for position to be included on our next trip. We may stay for 2 weeks 2010.
Memories of this trip will be etched in our minds for the rest of our lives.
