Rustic log cabins in a secluded riverfront setting <br /><br />Located at the heart of the BC Interior, the small community of Kleena Kleene has a year round population of about 20 and is bounded by the Klinaklini and McClinchy Rivers. Here we have an abundance of wildlife including moose, bear, mule deer, coyote, wolf, lynx, cougar, fox and many other species. But in the summer you may find a stray racing pigeon off course from pigeon racing enthusiasts on Vancouver Island. Many Chilcotin locals provide temporary care and homes to these pigeons and release them again from Nimpo Lake or Bella Coola where they hopefully will find their way home.<br /> <br /> The Cariboo-Chilcotin Region is the largest region in the Fraser Basin, occupying almost 80,000 sq km. The Chilcotin Plateau spreads west 300 km from the Fraser River to the Coast Mountains. The Chilcotin has a drier climate than the coast and experiences greater extremes of temperature, with ranges from the occasional -40°C in winter to more than 30°C in summer. <br /> <br /> A recognizable landmark for Kleena Kleene is Perkins Peak. It is the northernmost part of the Pantheon Range and is easily accessible by car nearly all the way to the peak at 9,250 feet. A mining road in decent 4x4 shape goes right past treeline and the peak is easily approached. The turn off is about halfway west of Tatla Lake, towards Miner Lake. You can summit in a day and still be back to your cabin in time for dinner and a sunset. Wildflowers along the trails are spectacular around the second week of July.
