Overlooking the 1200 acre Star Lake and the Highland
State Forest sits one of the most unique and beautiful log homes ever built, the Star Lake Retreat in Star Lake
Wisconsin. Located in northern Wisconsin’s Vilas County just south of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, it’s 10 miles
north of Eagle River. The property is almost entirely surrounded by state land with an abundance of breath-
taking natural beauty. There are numerous trails for hiking in the spring,
summer and fall and for cross-country skiing in the
winter. A great North Woods experience, the pet
friendly Star Lake Retreat was constructed in 1995 of
250 year old hemlock pines felled by a tornado. Situated
on a ridge, this log home has a fieldstone base and stone
terraced lawns. It’s truly a work of art. The three bedroom,
year round vacation rental property has three levels with
large windows facing the lake and woods, a balcony off
the master bedroom. Beneath the balcony is a large
picnic area overlooking Star Lake, with an octagonal
cedar picnic table, charcoal grill and large fire pit for campfires. The home has Norwegian touches with stenciled
pine floors, a huge stone fireplace and glider rockers to relax in as you enjoy views of the lake. A nearby sandy
beach and boat launch provides access for guests to enjoy the pristine and peaceful lake.
