The route from Ft Myers' Southwest Florida International airport is easy and well marked. Just follow the signs that say "To the Beaches." Once on Island, you feel captivated by its beauty. But tucked away, just behind the tree lined streets and bike path, there are dozens of boutiques and restaurants. Sanibel is renown for shelling which wash up along the tide line. Each receding tide leaves a new bounty to collect. Shell crafts, a yearly Shell Fair, and a Shell Museum are among the popular attraactions. The JN Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge also brings visitors from around the world. There is a vistors' center and tram tours conducted by Naturalists. Bike paths cover all of Sanibel and are separate from the roads, so quite easy. Bike rentals are reasonable cost and are delivered and picked up at your door for free.
