Chincoteague Island and its close brother Assateague National Park were voted best beach for wildlife by Travel and Leisure Magazine. A top pick for bird watching, waterfowl and upland game hunting, fishing of all kinds and of course the famous wild ponies, this resort is a sleeper. The town is family oriented, with wonderful dining and drinking establishments and a pristine uncrowned beach.
The town has plenty for all to do and many easy day trips like the Ocean City Boardwalk are but a short drive. Visit Tangier Island, Cape Charles, Onancock and some of the other Chesapeake towns or experience the local sites like the decoy museum, the wildlife tourism center or the national parks many visitor centers. It has all the normal beach town activities, mini golf, arcades, race cars, bumper boats and various boat tours?. but it will surprise you with its active fishing boat fleet, its many parks and the fresh local seafood is a must.
