Located on spring fed rivers on the Gulf of Mexico, in one of Florida's most pristine coastal areas! One of the best areas, in the entire gulf coast, for scalloping is located directly offshore! 
 
Florida's Nature Coast has attracted many famous and wealthy people. President Grover Cleveland loved Homosassa and the resort where he relaxed alongside the Homosassa River was known, while he was in residence, as “The Winter White House.” John Astor was another seasonal visitor, as was Winslow Homer. Modern facilities offer hospitality at every level. 
 
Sport fishers can tackle a wide variety of species in the area’s rivers, estuaries, grassy flats and the Gulf of Mexico. Massive redfish, trout, tarpon, cobia, grouper and other species all await in these waters. The Tsala Apopka lake chain in the Inverness area also boasts some of the very best largemouth bass fishing you’ll find anywhere. And not all the fishing requires a pole: A bountiful scalloping season runs from July 1 to September 10. 
 
Another unique Citrus County fishing experience is kayak fishing. Many fine fishing spots await in estuarine areas too shallow for power boats, but easily accessible to anglers equipped with a kayak. And in a destination acclaimed for both angling and paddling, combining the two activities brings twice the adventure!
